Faith and Charity

When I was younger the verse was translated "Faith hope and charity, these three remain and the greatest of these is charity."

Then the newer translations came out and the word was changed to love which so easily gets confused with sexual love that we forget what the root of charity is, self giving sacrifice.

You make such a good point. Especially in the context of your post below. If we cannot be at least charitable about those who are our brothers in Christ, what does that say about us as Christians?
