Stood Up
Don't believe it! Karen Hall made some noise recently about the two of us finally breaking bread. Well, today was the day. But, two hours before I was going to get in the car to drive to Rhode Island to meet her, she called and cancelled!
So, now I think you'll all agree it just might be incumbent upon here to come up here to Cambridge on October 6 for my diaconate ordination. She could act as "reporter" for those of you unable to make it.
It wasn't a total loss. I got to have dinner with my community and greet some of our new international members! "You could drive to Chicago and meet me," she said. I'm not sure she realizes how far Chicago is from Boston (1000 miles).

Mark,
Just "stumbled" onto your web site. This is Terry Baggott (St. Peter's, Columbia, SC). I sometimes hear people at St. Pete's say, "I wonder where Mark Mossa is in his formation?" Now I can tell them!! Know that you will be in my prayers, especially on the day of your diaconate ordination. I won't "stand you up!"
God Bless.
Terry,
Wonderful to hear from you!
You can tell folks that I will also be ordained a priest in New Orleans on June 14, and they're all invited!
I will be contacting St. Peter's soon to see if I can offer a Mass of Thanksgiving there, probably on June 22. Hope to see you at ordination and/or then!
*rubs my hands with glee at Mark's ordination*
I remember freaking you out at a certain Ignatian retreat (Loyola New Orleans)with you thinking my sage smudge stick was Pot. I promise to leave the sage at home.
What? Diaconate already?
-J.
Joe,
You're not serious?
I've been a Jesuit for 10 years, that hardly merits an "already?"
Mark,
I meant that in the "wow, how time flies!" way. Not in any untoward/snarky/doofus-ish way.
Mea maxima culpa.
-J.
When I started reading your blog, it still seemed such a very long time until your diaconate ordination. Now it is so nearly here! I will say a prayer for you when I visit a quiet church next.
P.S. How far is "Dartmouth, MA" from Boston? (I just might be around...)
Joe-
It's between and hour and an hour and a half drive from Boston, on the South Shore.
Let me know if you'll be around!
I'm trying to "move the chess pieces" to see if I can make this happen!
-J.
Re your 1000 miles: it's all Yankeeville to me.
Seriously, I have never been able to convince myself that Boston is not close to Chicago. Although now that I've made the flight, maybe I'll understand it better.
I was planning to show up on October 6th, but now that I've been banned in three provinces, I'm not sure that's a good idea. Maybe Joe will be there to represent!
Since someone asked somewhere else:
No, I'm not really banned in three provinces. It's actually only two.
IT WAS A JOKE. See, I used to be a comedy writer.
Mark: You and Barbara Nicolosi will have a wonderful time someday, comparing notes on my defects of character, especially viz a viz showing up on time, or at all.
I do have some good qualities, though.
October 6th is my niece Hannah's seventh birthday. I will think of your ordination as we celebrate her birthday!
