How Long Must We Sing This Song?

According to BBC News, nearly 25,000 civilians have met a violent death in Iraq since the war began.

Please pray for peace.

According to this BBC report, 39% of the deaths were victims of violent crime. That's a higher percentage than the 37% attributed to US-led coalition forces.

Considering the coalition forces had to invade, defeat the Iraqi army, defeat the muhajadeen militia(who wear civilian clothes), subdue looters (remember them?) and reestablish basic infrastructure, and wage a counter-insurgency -- again folks in civilian clothes -- that's a remarkable number.

Even the 25K total number is about a quarter of the number of remains found in Saddam's mass graves, so far, for those of us paying any attention.

To my anonymous commenter:

I didn't ask for a justification for killing or an accounting of who killed more than whom.

I just asked you to pray for peace.

And, I'm sorry, but I'm afraid I can't call any number of violent deaths a "remarkable number," unless you mean remarkably sad.
