Brilliant! Too funny! Thanks.
Now I know what Mark Shea meant when he referred to this clip as "the gayest liturgical dance ever." Pity! I've always liked the song. What is the context for this? Was Colbert making fun of the song, liturgical dance, Catholicism in general, or just it's '70s, feel-good, happy-clappy variety?
The context as determined by a little google magic. This is a closing sequence of "Strangers with Candy" ... a comedy show that used to be on Comedy Central staring Amy Sedaris & Stephen Colbert. As described in this review of the SWC Season 3 DVD:
"each episode ends with every character from the episode in a dance party. Its their equivalent of the Simpsons couch gag, and in a couple cases, such as Colbert doing a dance routine to the Hebrew song “The King of Glory”, it’s the highlight of the show."

Sometimes comedy is just comedy. And Stephen Colbert is just funny. Especially while dancing!
Thanks for sharing Mark.
Thanks for the clip. I needed that.

Thanks for the clip and the explanation.
I'm not sure what I'll have in my head when we next have Christ the King Sunday or Palm Sunday. Scary!
PS to Niall: It appears that Colbert is demonstrating much of the exuberance (sadly, not all of the talent) of those who originally sang this Israeli folk song. I don't see him making fun of his Catholicism, at least not from what I've seen of him thusfar.
The guy's a practicing Catholic, so if he's making fun of Catholicism, it's sort of an inside joke.
When I saw this, I thought, "This is a traditionalist's idea of a nightmare LA modernist liturgy!"
Oh wow I couldn't stop laughing! He's nuts! I miss Comedy Central ...
i absolutely adore stephen colbert :) i've been following his career since he was on the daily show (should i be whispering that or will i be flogged for admitting to watching jon stewart?)
